Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder consists of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. Obsessions are simply irrational, recurrent, intrusive thoughts, and compulsions are repetitive actions. In my practice, I will help you understand the underlying roots and day-to-day triggers of OCD and how to effectively address these elements.
It is believed that the current treatment for OCD, based on Exposure and Response Prevention principles, can have a success rate of up to 80%, and it is endorsed by the NICE guidelines as an evidence-based treatment for OCD.
The Exposure and Response Prevention approach is one of the main treatments I use to address compulsive patterns of thinking and behaviour. You will learn strategies on how to act on compulsive thoughts and prevent irrational or compulsive responses to triggered situations.
You will practice coping strategies such as deep relaxation and the Thought Stopping Technique, which are effective in significantly reducing the anxiety that accompanies OCD.
Through Hypnosis and Self-Hypnosis, you will learn powerful positive suggestions to effectively replace obsessive thoughts with more balanced ways of thinking.
You will also learn acceptance-based strategies to gradually reduce the desire to engage in compulsive actions or other familiar 'safety-seeking behaviours'.
